Now in 2017 contemporary days, as we know, technology undeniable becomes to play an important role in our life - as a part of us.
I'm certain that people access internet everyday. (Well, not everyone but I won't debate on the gap and inequality in capitalism here)
In books industry, every part of the system adjusts itself to the change of the development of technology.
We'll see online bookstores. Every publishing have their own website or Facebook page to promote themselves, also writers and even readers.
Some bookshop or publishing have their own line account or mobile application to be another way to reach and maintain their costumers.
The benefit of increasing of technology and social media is helping writers can be self-published authors online.
This is the high time ever in the history that we have this much variety numbers of writers because everyone has their own media.
If Amazon.com is the big boss of online bookstore in America and worldwide, so in Thailand we have Readery.
This is the new idea of virtual bookstore that doesn't need to have its own shop as an actual place in reality.
(Even though now amazon already has its finally own bookstore branch in New York on May 2017.)
Anyhow, I think the idea of virtual and actual reality has to go together.
We can use technology to support/promote what we are doing in the real world.
Human still need to get in touch fresh in fresh, so we still need social event to meet new people.
We can use technology to support/promote our events to be known more widely.
Events can be the Reading club, book talk, meet the author, publishing open house, etc.
eBook and kindle as digital books may change the way people read.
We used to fear the the actual books will disappear by the rising of digital age.
But just recently there were the numbers showing that eBooks is descend.
I think it's time people get enough on it, finally I believe that the actual book will survive.
The benefits of reading the real book is that we can focus and concentrate, and have a sense of touch and smelling and etc.
What I would like to see in the future of literature in the 21st century is that we should use technology to extend material in books more.
What I have recently seen and think it's work is that the Readery made a short film for promoting new novel of one female writer, Uruda Covin. This is the link to that video I mentioned: https://www.facebook.com/readery/videos/1349120535195535/
It's like short book teaser that made the book more alive and interesting.
Now if we want to look for books belong to some category, we can search for books by look through hashtags on social medias like Instagram, FB, Twitter, etc. So sometimes you don't just find books you need, but also meeting new people who're reading the same books as yours. So it can be another community the new technology can gives you.
