Graduate Piano Recital in 2018
Concept
Classical music has long been a male-dominated field, like as many other places in the patriarchal world. In every old history books, we learn about Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, … all the names we’ve been taught as the great artists (if we’re thoughtful enough to be aware) are all male composers.
Then comes to my questions: Where had all the female composers gone? Who are they?
Why their name has never been mentioned? And, if we are eager enough... How can we change that?
Thanks to the feminism movements in a couple of centuries before, women gain rights in political and had a place in the public area. As in classical music field, branches of musicologists in the late 20th century work hard to discover the forgotten music by female composers from the past.
Now we are living the era in which worldwide gender status is becoming treated equally. Isn’t it already the time to let the music by the forgotten female composers from the unequal past finally be heard?
I hope my recital and my performances will more or less speak out their voices. So I think it’s one way to rewrite the new history, and one possible way to change the world.
